Rapper A Star who is known for the #TwoZeroOne series that showcases his thoughts and intentions for the following year has been an artist who has featured on countless #UKCHH projects across the board, from JayEss to S.O., Guvna B to Tneek, the Leytonstone rapper has graced them all. Blew up his headline show with a packed out venue on his debut EP release ‘Revolutionary‘. It seems like he enjoys the challenge and hustle that comes with being a musician.
However, A Star braves the cold, the dark and the outright intimate in his new release. He decides to go all in and bring awareness to the underexposed knowledge of the sickness of ‘Sickle Cell’ as his personal struggle with the illness. Not just for your enjoyment, but for your inclusion!
If you don’t know you will know today
Sharp pains in my arms and legs, feet, palms and chest, calves and head
Breathing levels decreasing Feeling like my paths at an end
Still air in my lungs I must breath
Feels like no ones here it’s just me
What is Sickle Cell?
Sickle cell disease is the name for a group of inherited conditions that affect the red blood cells. The most serious type is called sickle cell anaemia.
Sickle cell disease mainly affects people of African, Caribbean, Middle Eastern, Eastern Mediterranean and Asian origin. In the UK, it’s particularly common in people with an African or Caribbean family background.
People with sickle cell disease produce unusually shaped red blood cells that can cause problems because they don’t live as long as healthy blood cells and they can become stuck in blood vessels.
Sickle cell disease is a serious and lifelong condition, although long-term treatment can help manage many of the problems associated with it.
Bringing awareness to these issues helps us discuss and bring it to the forefront where it needs to be, open and transparent. There is much change that can come about through understanding what these illnesses are. Much more than a single and music but a message that carries weight and honesty that can’t be – no – will not be muted!
