Album Review: “CityScape” from Ghost Lotus
24 track album CityScape has a good mix of long and short tracks, whilst including a variety of music styles. The Jazz/soul theme runs throughout and perfectly captures the “city” ambience stated in the title. Overall, it is original, exploring a range of topics and struggles. It’s hard to believe the artist is only 21 years old. Through storytelling and strong descriptive; Ghost Lotus goes quite deep and is transparent in the testimonies he shares. At some points, wisdom and insight from a Christian perspective
At some points, wisdom and insight from a Christian perspective is given – whilst at others; I was wondering if this was a Christian album at all! The over use of the “N Word” – specifically in track and 21 seemed unnecessary and shows some immaturity lyrically. The way certain topics were presented also put me off. I had to be forgiving of this second criticism, due to the artists age and the level of maturity (I assumed) he’s at in his spiritual walk and growth with God. The various featuring artists do well and are a nice addition to the songs they are on.
CityScapes is easy listening and despite long, can definitely be listened to in one sitting. It would be good background music for commuting, whilst at work or doing homework. Despite it being aimed at a younger audience, it is likeable and professionally done. I enjoyed it.
As Ghost, himself says in track 20;
“I haven’t reached peak yet”
and there is DEFINITELY plenty more to come from this young man.
