Sharing is caring!

Every black person needs to watch this music video and share with their sisters, daughters, friends, mothers and so on! The message is so beautiful. As a black woman, I honestly felt like I had a crown on my head while watching.

Jo Joey absolutely killed it with the lyrics and the video took it to another level. I love how the song deals with the spirit, soul and body. It provides holistic healing, despite the negative representations of black women.

Jo talks about the beauty of black skin and hair.

“Baby girl I love it when it’s curly or its braided…”

“You don’t need a face lift, you are perfect, your skin glow like you are doing it on purpose”

A lot of girls bleach their skin or think curly hair isn’t beautiful, this song provides assurance that they are wonderfully made in God’s image. I also appreciate how the song features women and children of different shapes, sizes, and skin tones.

Jo does not fail to remind black women of their inner strength …he says

“you know how to hold it down”

“You’re more than a triple threat, brains beauty and intellect.”

While black women are physically beautiful the strength in our soul cannot be overlooked.

Finally, we see spiritual strength and the power of the black female community. Joey references his mother as “a black queen praying underneath” he hints at how badly his life would have turned without her.

I’ll end with these lines for any black queen reading: You are Beautiful, you are powerful, you are royalty & you are God’s Gift.
