We’ve been seeing couple tunes drop from Jo Joey, some hard hitting, some down to earth and this track hits it right between. The calm melody-singing vibe makes a good chorus to deliver the bars. When I hear this track it comes across as a direct opposition to the Gun vs the Pen. I get Jo Joey saying that they want to see Black youths ‘buss’ a gun, instead he’s flipping it and using the pen instead. Using that to be successful.
…I had my hand on that *usssh*(gun), I could have been a killer mum…
There’s a clear bias against young people when it comes to media and secular radio. The music promoting guns, sex, gangs and crime – is flooding the airwaves and circling around on the earphone of so many in our society. Jo Joey defiantly has a clear message for the powers that be, who allow this message to permeate the airwaves and promote this culture of crime. He’s somehow saying to ‘them’ that his route to success is based;
..in God that we trust…
because the place where he comes from is not ‘friendly’, we’ve seen it on the news and the reality in the streets. Blood runs!
We need voices like Jo Joey spitting bars that are challenging what many are sleeping on, a graft that is consistent and daily. Big track and we hope that Jo Joey keeps gaining ground with his music as his style and flow is something that is needed in the scene as to increase it’s diversity and talent.
