Rarely in life you get to meet people who inspire you to kick on to the next step or drive harder in an area, let alone motivate you towards your faith in God. Countless people search far and wide for such people, and countless miss the mark. There is a slowing down of integrity in Godly men and leaders in or community. A rarity that makes these kind of men, all the more valued.
As you know already I am being direct concerning UK Christian Hip Hop.
I met Lucas Langdon many years ago in 2004 when I just got into Christian rapping myself, he ran a gospel label called Awake Records. I designed for him and helped him with some releases as he tried a few times to sign me, which for one reason or another I never took up.
Still he had a heart for young people and seeing them pursue their Godly gifts, as he was heavily involved in the UKCHH and Grime scene, pushing artistes like Guvna B, GreenJade, Jahaziel, JayEss and many more. Championing it till his last day, and it lives on in so many of those artistes and people he affected with his infectious desire to put God first.
Amongst others he was a forerunner to birthing life and professionalism into the UKCHH scene.
How I knew Lucas
It was a good relationship to have as 2013 struck and I ended up helping him again with his then radio station LUV316. Over then next two years we spent huge amounts of time together building and developing the brand and production. I would roll down to the radio station, and before we could even kick off work, we are admonishing each other and encouraging each other with the Word. Praying and . . . ‘oh wait it’s 2 hours gone’… effortless! Limited funds but we tried to make ends meet and push on to another month.
In the 2016 Lucas Langdon, CEO of LUV316 passed away. It was a big loss to myself and the Christian music industry as a whole, someone who was spoken so highly of by other moguls in the industry like;
Still I reflect today on his birthday to shout-out a man who didn’t leave behind tangible assets like, a radio station, buildings, capital or the rest, he left behind intangibles such as fight, perseverance, integrity and Christ-Centerdness.
I count it a privilege to have known a man who stood by his Godly beliefs and refused to bow to the ungodly pressures of the world and its environment. He fought till his last day and fought well, and as I look at Kingdom Culture and what it represents, I must pay respect by Gods grace to a man who has inspired (in part) the foundations of this organisation.
January 14th 1968 – May 29th 2016 – Lucas Langdon
Leave a lasting legacy of intangibles, invest good into people because that is something you can never destroy!!!
